The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

1: What is the working title of your book(s)?

"The Unforgiven"

2: Where did the idea come from for the book?

Since I began writing from first person point-of-view from different characters, I thought I'd like to try the same format, but from the points of view of the protagonist and the antagonist. As I pondered more, I thought, 'what if the good guy has done something really bad, yet is still heroic and the bad guy does bad things but has heroic tendencies?' Thus I began writing.

3: What genre does your book come under?

Fantasy. It's a stand alone novel with the potential for a series.

4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

I'd love to see this as a movie, but I'd like to have unknown actors and actresses have a chance. All the familiar faces and names - great, but I honestly can't think of one who'd fit the role of Vanyar, or Malik. Denis Leary might make a great Flynn - in his younger days. I adore Johnny Depp, but his talents wouldn't quite mesh here. The "Hunger Games" actress might fit as Princess Iyumi, (can't remember her name beyond Jennifer). I can see Jeremy Irons in it, however. He's great in anything.

5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Tough question, but I'll try: "Can Captain Vanyar and Princess Iyumi reach the prophesied child, intended by the gods to unite the countries of Bryn'Ciardha and Atholia, before Prince Flynn and the Red Duchess find it, and murder it, first?"

6: Is your book self-published, published by an independent publisher, or represented by an agency?

It's not finished yet, but I hope to self-publish by the end of 2013.

7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It's still in process.

8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I'm afraid I can't answer this one. I have my circle of favorite fantasy authors and haven't deviated in a while. I can't think of a single book that might compare.

9: Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I had time between the "Saga of the Black Wolf" series publications, and thought perhaps I might try my hand at something different, something a bit more challenging. Being in the tainted, yet good, guy's head at the same time wallowing in the mind-set of a bad boy who doesn't like his role in the world. And, no, its not inspired by Clint Eastwood. In fact, the title itself came to me by listening to Metallica. I hope I'm not in trouble by saying that.

10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

I think they might enjoy being inside the mind of a guy who does evil, yet in truth isn't exactly evil. He is what life made him. They might sympathize with the hero who made a mistake, and craves redemption. Two sides to every story. Can Vanyar redeem himself? In Flynn really and truly evil?
